Womso Biography
I was born in Russia in beautiful Moscow and grew up in Bronx, NYC - a city which has a central place in the music history. I returned to my loved home city in 1990, after the 'perestroika'.
I started to play music in 2002 influenced by my Russian heritage and by music from classical to experimental electro, so the sets are groovy and eclectic.. anything from rare old disco to freshly pressed electro.
After visiting London for the first time in 2005 and discovering the joys of underground dance music and clubbing I 'fell in love' with this city.
I graduated from the Moscow University sociology of music department and decided to move to London in 2006. The same year I launched the 'Polonium Sushi' project and weekly 'Minimal' boat parties in London.
In 2007 I took part in the Winter Music Conference in Miami with a freshly recorded Wonderland mix which was aired on Portuguese Radio, followed by an american debut in Key Bar NYC.
My DJ name Womso - Wonders Of Minimal SOund was 'born' as the 'consequence' of my fascination with the russian minimalistic clubbing scene and my residency in 2007 at the Minibar - Moscow uderground minimal techno venue.
2008 was my 'deep house' year in London with regular invites to local venues.
The summer and autumn of 2009 I spent in the South of France living in Nice and doing shows like this and this on Radio Monaco and in various local venues such as Bliss Bar, Ghost, and Brasserie De Monaco to name a few.
In May 2010 in London I took part in the 'Next Girl DJ' competition - the Pan-European DJ contest for girls that 'aims to discover the most talented female DJ around' and I am proud to say that I was the 2nd winner of the Next Girl DJ (UK) London final.
Currently based in London I am producing bootlegs like this and this and frequently travel to Moscow where I make sounds for Piaget Swiss luxury brand and Russian Organic Food campaigns, and for contemporary art and fashion shows.
I have completed my internship at the amazing Resident Advisor in summer 2010.
Presently I am playing at, and promoting, my parties in London, Moscow and the South of France.
